Michigan law enforcement agencies made 23,893 arrests involving marijuana in 2015, about 9 percent of all arrests, according to Michigan State Police data.

About 64 percent of the marijuana arrests were for possession or use. Marijuana comprised about 58 percent of all drug arrests in the state.

Marijuana is the No. 1 illicit drug of choice in Michigan, experts say. An estimated 10 percent of Michigan residents use the drug at least once a month.

Marijuana use, legal and illegal, is increasing in Michigan

Michigan voters approved use of medical marijuana in 2008. There currently is a petition drive under way to put a proposal on the November 2018 ballot to legalize use of recreational marijuana in Michigan.
